Nokia Ovi Suite 2.0 (Beta)

Nokia has released the new version of Nokia Ovi Suite 2.0.
It is still under beta testing but it is clean and should work without uninstalling Nokia PC Suite. However Ovi Suite 1.x and Nseries Suite will be uninstalled.

Ovi Maps 3.0 Beta

Nokia BetaLabs have just released the latest version of Ovi Maps.

Nokia developing technology to charge phones from ambient radio waves?

"Imagine never having to charge your cellphone ever again. Picture your phone scooping up ambient energy waves from cellphone antennas, Wi-Fi transmitters or TV towers. It's not sci-fi, but is reality as the research team at Nokia is working on a way to keep your cellphone's battery topped off. A member of the Nokia Research Centre in Cambridge, Markku Rouvala, says his team is working on a way to collect up to 50 milliwatts of power from the electromagnetic waves which are converted into electrical signals. The 50 milliwatts of power would be enough to recharge a phone that has been turned off. Current prototypes can pick up about 3 to 5 milliwatts.

Intel's Joshua Smith, who co-developed a temperature and humidity sensor that uses power from a 1.0 megawatt television antenna 4.1 kilometers away, says that to obtain 50 milliwatts of power would require over 1,000 strong signals. Smith's sensor required only 60 microwatts. Another skeptic is Harry Ostaffe, head of mareting for Powercast, who said that, "To get 50 milliwatts seems like a lot".

Nokia's Rouvala says that this technology will probably be ready to be put in a handset in 3 or 4 years. He says that ultimately, the Finnish phone manufacturer plans on using the technology in conjunction with other energy saving faetures such as solar cells placed around the outside body of a handset."

Kambala

Metamaterials are still in investigation stage but yesterday just read something quite innovative. (yet I believe it is just a concept, not an actual thing)

It's a mobile phone and at the same time an headset. It is called Kambala.

It looks very nice but one wonders how can that be innovative.

I would just imagine that if i accidently drop it, the device would camouflage with the floor and I would only be able to find it when I hear the cracking sound....

iPhone 3GS announced

Long time no see....GEE!!!

Yes, today was announced the new iPhone 3GS (S should stand for speed)
- 3 megapixel camera with automatic autofocus and touch focus
- built-in compass
- new VGA@30fps video recording
- added the 32Gb version
- does not seem to be any different on the rest.

It will be sold along the iPhone 3G.
3 waves of availability are expected:
First> 19th of June 2009


Second> 9th of July 2009 (Portugal included here)


Third and last wave> 9th of August 2009


Can't help to get a little excited everytime Apple launches a product. They know how to do marketing and their products are actually very good.

jKiwi v0.9.5

As the programmers describe it: "an application capable of doing virtual makeup (concealer paint, eye shadows, blush, contact lenses for eye colors, change lip colors, etc.) and virtual hair styler (try different hair cuts in different colors), by using a given user’s photo."

Some of the features are: hair cut, foundation, blush, shadow and lipstick.

Today NCA posted a new theme: Moon. This theme is s60v5 only! The post came through dailymobile.

Game: SpaceDancer

Today I came accross an application called SpaceDancer (via DailyMobile.se). Graphics are really nothing special yet it caught my eyes!!

Jamie Fuller has developed the first multitouch game for 5800! (and I thought 5800 had no multitouch capabilities...)
Basically it is a Guitar Hero-like game.

Google Maps updated to v3.0.1.4

Google has just released a major update for it's mobile version of Google Maps. Version 3.0.1.4.

It can be updated through your mobile phone, just visit http://m.google.com/maps on your device. Or even download for S60 3rd edition devices through this link.

On February 26th, Ovi Team released a theme called Ovi Blue.
It was posted at Nokia Conversations.
This theme is for S60 3.1 and 3.2 devices only. You can download it here.

Saw this game for S60 devices with proximity sensor and accelerometer and had to share: Moolan.
